Introduction
Introduction
This week we will be taking a different route from our usual learning. We will learn Branding and UI from Sagi Haviv, a graphic designer based in New York, United States. This course can be seen on the Domestika Learning Platform.
N.B: David Mong will handle this course, grade the tasks, hold Q/A sessions and do your tasks feedback.
Creating something so simple but at the same time so distinctive is the most difficult thing in Graphic Design. I have always envisioned this course to be about this most difficult thing.
This course proposes a change of mindset. You will learn about the basic principles of logo design and how to transform ideas into something iconic, but also how to build a case and present it in the best possible way to your client.
I welcome you and thank you for taking this course with me. Let's start by talking about my career and also about my main influences, Tom Geismar and Ivan Chermayeff.
Influences
In this lesson, I want to share two of my favorite design pieces of all time. Tom Geismar and Ivan Chermayeff are the designers, but also my main influences.
The two men worked together for sixty years. Working with both has afforded me a rare perspective on the duality of life and the magical relationship that opposites can sometimes have.
What We Will Do in the Course
Let’s go back to these images we talked about before. What these two images have in common is that they are so utterly simple. Creating something so simple but at the same time so distinctive is the most difficult thing in Graphic Design. I have always envisioned this course to be about this most difficult thing.
I look at a lot of portfolios and I have noticed the identity part is always the weakest part. This course will help you elevate your work and your portfolio.
Tasks and Assignments
On the Slack Workspace, in the #tasks_productdesign channel, you are required to share two things:
- Share something you did and you feel proud of
- Share the extraordinary people that inspire you, your influences.
Before we even get started, I would like you to pick a brand of your choice and redesign their logo. Find a logo that needs to redesign and do it. Do it now, before you move on into the next lesson.
You can use Brands of The World if you don't know where to look.
